I have a 2014 bmw x1 they told me it needed a new timing belt and they charged me over 8000$ I took it to a different mechanic and it just needed a new battery. They also reported it to Carfax and there is nothing wrong with the timing. I already had 4 other repairs and I bet it didn't even need them. None were under warranty. I'll never go back bc they didn't even address the reason I brought it in but they charged me 200$ just to tell me what wasn't wrong. I was shocked.
We’re sorry this customer felt disappointed, but we do want to clarify a few key details for anyone reading. European vehicles are precision-engineered machines that require accurate diagnostics and proper repair — guessing or “patching” an issue can lead to much bigger problems down the road. In this case, our inspection and video documentation showed the vehicle’s timing chain was significantly out of alignment — nearly two inches off. While a weak battery may have caused a temporary starting issue, it would not and could not correct a mechanical timing fault. Starting or driving a car in that condition risks major engine damage. Our team went above and beyond to communicate clearly — including sharing video evidence, providing rides, and offering professional recommendations for safe, lasting repairs. The customer declined that work, which is of course their choice, but we stand by our diagnosis and the quality of our process. At European Motor Cars, we take pride in doing the job right — using the correct parts, tools, and procedures that protect the investment you’ve made in your vehicle. That’s why we’ve earned our reputation as Northern Colorado’s trusted specialists for European makes and models. —The Team at European Motor Cars
