Colorado Calling? Don't Forget Your European Car Road Trip Checklist
There's something about Colorado in the summer.
Maybe it's the mountains calling. Maybe it's a weekend in Glenwood Springs. Maybe it's finally crossing Rocky Mountain National Park off the bucket list. Or maybe it's just loading up the car, pointing it west, and seeing where the road takes you.
Whatever your adventure looks like, one thing is certain:
Road trips are a lot more fun when you're driving instead of sitting on the shoulder waiting for a tow truck.
Before you head out on your next Colorado adventure, take a few minutes to make sure your European vehicle is ready for the miles ahead.
Where Are You Headed?
Some of our favorite road trips include:
- Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park
- Glenwood Springs
- Steamboat Springs
- Telluride
- Ouray
- Salida
- Buena Vista
- Whether you're driving a BMW, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Volvo, Land Rover, MINI, Jaguar, or Volkswagen, Colorado's mountains can be demanding on both drivers and vehicles.
Check Your Tires
Your tires are the only thing connecting your car to the road.
Before you leave:
✔ Check tire pressure
✔ Check tread depth
✔ Look for uneven wear
✔ Make sure your spare tire is ready to go
Colorado highways, mountain passes, and unexpected construction zones can be tough on tires.
Check Your Oil
You've heard us say it before:
Oil is the lifeblood of your car.
If you're close to your next oil service, don't wait until after the trip.
A fresh oil change before a long drive is one of the cheapest ways to protect your engine.
Remember:
- Conventional oil: 2,000–3,000 miles
- Synthetic oil: 5,000 miles
No exceptions!
Test Your Battery
Nothing ruins a road trip faster than a car that won't start after lunch.
Modern European vehicles rely heavily on battery voltage. If your battery is over four years old or showing signs of weakness, have it tested before you leave.
Check Cooling Systems
Long climbs, hot temperatures, and mountain driving put extra strain on cooling systems.
We'll inspect:
- Coolant condition
- Hoses
- Water pumps
- Expansion tanks
- Potential leaks
Overheating in the middle of nowhere is not part of anyone's vacation plans.
Don't Ignore Warning Lights
That warning light that's been on for three weeks?
Now is the time.
Not the day before departure.
Not halfway to Crested Butte.
Today.
Let Us Take a Look
At European Motor Cars, we perform comprehensive pre-trip inspections designed specifically for European vehicles.
We'll help identify small issues before they become expensive vacation stories.
After all, we'd rather see photos of your Porsche in Telluride than hear about your Audi on a tow truck.
Adventure Awaits
Colorado is one of the most beautiful places in the world to drive.
Make sure your vehicle is ready to enjoy every mile of it.
Before you head for Rocky Mountain National Park, Glenwood Springs, Estes Park, Telluride, or beyond, schedule your pre-trip inspection with European Motor Cars.
